🏁 The Wicked Motocross Dictionary

7 October, 2025

Everything you need to understand the wild world of motocross — from the slang you hear in the pits to the terms that make riders sound like they’re speaking another language. Learn it, live it, and ride Wicked.

A – F

Arm Pump
That brutal forearm burn that kicks in mid-moto when you’re hanging on too tight. It makes holding the bars feel like gripping concrete — every rider’s sworn enemy, but a right of passage.

Backyard Track
The homemade setup where legends are built and bones occasionally get tested. Usually features sketchy jumps, an old hose for watering, and a dad with a shovel.

Berm
The banked wall of dirt on the outside of a corner. Rail it hard, spray some roost, and you’ll feel like a hero.

Block Pass
When you dive inside another rider in a corner, take their line, and force them to back off. Aggressive? Maybe. Effective? Always.

Case
Coming up short on a jump so your rear wheel slams the lip. Feels like your spine compressed two inches. You may need a lawyer.

Clutch Up
Giving the clutch a quick snap to pop the front wheel. Commonly seen before a wheelie, a scrub, or a crash reel.

DNF (Did Not Finish)
The three letters no rider wants on their results sheet. Usually caused by crashes, bike issues, or arm pump from earlier.

Enduro
An endurance-based form of off-road racing that mixes motocross, trails, and survival skills. Think: mud, trees, and madness.

Flat Track
A dirt oval where riders slide sideways at 100+ km/h. Throttle control and bravery required.

Full Send
Giving it absolutely everything. No hesitation, no brakes — pure Wicked energy.

G – L

Gap
The empty space between jumps you’re supposed to clear. Missing it means casing, clearing it means glory.

Gear Set
Matching jersey and pants combo — the outfit that makes or breaks your look. Bonus points if it’s Wicked.

GoPro Moment
That perfect clip you’ll replay a hundred times
or delete immediately after a crash.

Holeshot
Being first into the first corner after the gate drops. Bragging rights for life.

Line Choice
The fine art of picking the fastest path through corners, ruts, or chaos. Smart riders study it; reckless ones wing it.

Loop Out
When the bike rears up too far and flips backward — a guaranteed crowd pleaser for everyone except you.

Lid
Your helmet. Never ride without it, and never wear one that doesn’t fit.

Lap Time
Your measurement of progress, pride, and pain. Shaving off one second can take months of grinding.

M – R

Moto
Short for “motocross race.” Typically two per event, each as intense as it gets.

Moto Dad / Moto Mom
The pit-crew parents who double as mechanics, psychologists, and snack suppliers. The true heroes behind every young rider.

To go full throttle and hold it there. Often followed by a story starting with “So I was pinned in fifth
”

Privateer
A rider who races without factory backing — just passion, grit, and duct tape.

Roost
That spray of dirt or sand your rear tire launches into the face of whoever’s behind you. It’s motocross for “get out of my way.”

Ruts
Deep grooves formed in corners. Commit to one, trust it, and ride it like rails — or get swallowed whole.

Rev Limiter
When your bike’s RPMs hit the limit and start bouncing — that aggressive “BRAAAP-BRAAAP” that sounds both amazing and slightly abusive.

Ride Day
A no-pressure practice session — a day to dial in your setup, test gear, and film some Wicked content.

S – Z

Scrub
Flattening your bike in the air to stay low over a jump and land faster. Made famous by James “Bubba” Stewart. Looks cooler than it sounds — and it already sounds pretty cool.

Sand Track
Where stamina meets suffering. Every lap feels like two, but nothing builds skill faster. It’s self descriptive.

Seat Bounce
Using the suspension rebound by sitting right before a jump to launch higher. Get it wrong and it’s an instant OTB (Over The Bars).

Single / Double / Triple
Types of jumps — one, two, or three sections. If you’re asking whether to hit the triple, the answer is probably no (yet).

Stoppie
A front-wheel wheelie — all balance, no mistakes allowed.

Tear-Offs
Thin plastic sheets on your goggles that you rip off mid-race for clear vision. One pull, fresh view.

Two-Stroke
Light, loud, and smells like victory. Perfect for anyone who likes their bikes to scream. Its usually the young rippers or OG’s shredding 2-stroke machines.

Four-Stroke
Smooth, torquey, and dominant in modern MX. Great for control and consistency.

Whip
Throwing your bike sideways mid-air just because it looks cool. Style points only.

Whoops
That row of small bumps that separate the brave from the exhausted. Hit them right and you’ll skim; hit them wrong and you’ll swim.

Wide Open (WFO)
Throttle pinned, eyes wide, brain off — the Wicked definition of commitment.

Wicked Moment
That point mid-ride when everything clicks — perfect gear, perfect flow, perfect send.

💬 Wicked Wisdom

Motocross isn’t just a sport — it’s a language, a lifestyle, and a mindset. Whether you’re railing berms, chasing holeshots, or posting your first ride day reel, remember: speak it loud, live it fast, and keep it Wicked.
